As she walked towards the fire, she hesitated and looked back. Her hesitation was about to step in, when she was ordered to go forward. As this woman stood at the face of the burning ditch she was told, ‘Give up the religion of the boy or be prepared to die.’  

Imagine her fears, imagine her pain, knowing she had to make a decision right there and then.

What happened to her? I’ll tell you in a while insha’Allah.

This amazing women had a higher intention to please Allah SWT and when this was set, she was able to overcome any obstacles that were placed in the way of her pleasing Allah SWT.

For the first time I have been able to comprehend countless lessons and appreciate this story to the fullest extent. Lessons in your life shape you for the better; every situation you are going through has an ultimate lesson whether the situation is good or bad. Nothing can happen to You, that will not benefit you in some way or another.

As you and I travel though life, we find ourselves in one of two situations. Either something good is happening in our lives, in which case as Muslims our role is to thank Allah for the blessing, or something bad or something we dislike is happening to us, and our role is then to be patient. This is the formula for a happy life, a life cruising towards the pleasure of Allah. Sabr (patience) or shukr (gratitude), the worry stops here.

This amazing mother is remembered today because she knew her destination. Her destination was to please Allah SWT over everything else.

Once she was made aware of her destination, she didn’t compromise it. She was content and knew victory would be hers. At times you may be pit in a situation you may have to compromise your deen. If you are aware of your ultimate destination the test is lightened and the task becomes easier to carry and overcome.

Nothing is stopping you at all from being remembered or leaving a legacy behind, you have the capability to change what is in your control today and Allah SWT will deal with the rest, whether it’s at home with your family or in your community. You have resources to make a difference.

Back to the story; she was about to step back and give in when her suckling child spoke and said: ‘Be patient mother! For verily, you are following the truth!’

And verily she was following the truth, and until this day she is remembered in the Qur’an, in Surah al-Buruj* by You and me.

Did she jump? Yes she did.

Something to think about:

1) What is your destination?

2) What 3 things can you do this week to get closer to your destination?

What’s stopping you from being remembered on the Day of Judgement by Allah SWT, because you knew your destination?
